OKAY. Momentary sounding board: This is Christina Aguilera. She has been hitting the media spotlight a lot lately because apparently she is “fat”. She has been deemed chubby, unhealthy, overweight, fat, and even recently the once-chubby Kelly Osborne called the voluptuous diva, fat.  (For all the needed citations, google Christina Aguilera, or hell, Christina Aguilera fat).
See, This shocks me. This shocks me because for one, I think Christina looks great! I mean, solid babe-status great! She seems to be healthy for a mom in her early 30’s, and she is rocking the Louboutin’s too! She may have days where her clothes dont flatter her shape, or she is snapped crawling out of a pub a little… um… unkempt, but hell, we all have those days.
The thing I find the most distressing about this recent obsession with fat shaming within Hollywood is that mostly, the people they are shaming ARE NOT FAT. It only reiterates the scary truth that Hollywood aggressively imposes its stick thin and personally, malnourished body ideals onto the average American.
I will not argue with the ever growing obesity epidemic in this nation, but I will say that there is a major difference between obesity and being unhealthy (which BTW, are NOT unanimous). To me, Miss Aguilera appears to be neither. I think Aguilera is killing it with her curves, her ass is jammin’, and her tits are enviable. For a mother, an inspiring vocalist, and a woman, I think Aguilera should be praised for continuing to traverse Hollywood body politics, paying little mind to the assholes who call her fat. Because honestly, I can think of worse things than being just “fat”.
